Acupuncture
Originating in China over 2500 years ago, acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine, sterile, solid needles into specific points on the body to help the body rebalance itself and overcome disease. Acupuncture is a safe and effective therapy for treating a variety of medical conditions, including pain, gastrointestinal disorders, gynecological problems, allergies and asthma, insomnia, stress, depression and anxiety, menopausal symptoms, infertility, fatigue, sports injuries, colds and flus, and more. Acupuncture needles are very tiny and most patients do not find them painful at all.
There are many different styles of acupuncture. Marcie and Karl use a mix of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, Balance Method, and modern orthopedic acupuncture techniques.
During your acupuncture appointment at Bower Family Acupuncture, your acupuncturist may also use other techniques from Traditional Chinese Medicine, such as moxibustion, cupping, and gua sha, as well as provide you with diet and lifestyle advice consistent with Chinese Medicine theory. Marcie also includes Chinese Herbal Medicine recommendations when appropriate during acupuncture sessions.
After your first visit, your practitioner will discuss a treatment plan with you, including the number and frequency of treatments needed for your particular condition. As a general rule, for a chronic condition, we recommend coming for treatment weekly for 6-8 weeks and then re-assessing progress (although sometimes we may recommend coming in more or less frequently.)
